Under normal circumstances, I wouldn’t include a shot this blurry on this site, but I was so proud of getting a photo of not one but two giant otters (Pteroneura brasiliensis), that I had to include it. It was getting dark, and light levels were quite low under the shade of the trees. Otters are also really quick little blighters, so the shutter speed was woefully inadequate. Anyway, it was quite a thrill to see them.

Deeply envious…

It was really fantastic. There was a pair of otters, and at least 3 partly grown infants, who were just coming out of the den when we arrived. I saw some the year before last, but only brief glimpses in the water, so it was great to see them out of the water.
