We were fabulously lucky to see a pair of the very endangered hyacinth macaw (Anodorhynchus hyacinthinus) almost every day in Brazil. They were nesting nearby and came through at least once a day, announcing their presence with their raucous calls. My lens (a 3x zoom) was pathetically short for taking shots of them, but I liked the way they were framed here - looking down at me - by the palm leaves and ipê roxo blossom. This photo doesn’t do any kind of justice to their vivid, cobalt blue plumage and bright yellow skin patches.
