I run Tracks on my own server (Ubuntu 7.10 with Apace2).  One of the options when starting up Tracks is -d or—daemon. This might be a stupid question, but if I use that option why is tracks not showing up (or rails)? I have ruby on the list, but nothing else.

Also, since I do not want to keep a terminal open just for Tracks does anybody have a suggestion for a “nice” way to stop the Tracks server? Obviously Ctrl-C only works if you are still in the terminal and the only way I can get it to stop seems to be

If you’re using mongrel, you can stop tracks by using

mongrel_rails stop

from your tracks directory. Using ps, it will only show mongrel_rails as process name. In your case the ruby proces is probably tracks.

Or you could look at using one of the other Rails deployment options, like [mod_rails](http://www.modrails.com/) or [mongrel_cluster](http://mongrel.rubyforge.org/wiki/MongrelCluster). Running a single mongrel with mongrel_rails start and mongrel_rails stop is probably sufficient for standard use, but if you want bullet-proof availability I suggest setting up mod_rails (which is very straightforward).
