Hi!

I just started using Tracks and GTD some days ago and i love it. Until now I used MorphExchange as a host, but it wasn’t reachable yesterday and it’s also rather slow. Since that’s not the idea of an robust storage, i decided to host tracks on my own.
The setup took me about 6 hours, but it’s done wink
Now I want to copy all my actions from MorphExchange to my own installation. As you might know, i only have access to the downloadable YAML file on MorphExchange. But I have just no idea how to import this file in my existing DB.

Is there a tutorial anywhere I can follow?

I am running Tracks 1.5 on Ubuntu and Apache2 with MySQL DB.

thanks,
amarillo

Tracks can export, but import is not implemented yet… Is there any way you can get a mysqldump of your MorphExchange install?

not as far as i know…
MorphExchange provides Tracks as a service. i.e. I only see what is provided by the web app. i don’t even have admin rights.
of course, i could ask the support team to send me a DB dump, but i thought YAML should be the way of choice.
especially since it has been commented as

YAML: Best for porting data between Tracks installations

on the export page.

you are right about that. Unfortunately importing yaml did not make it into tracks1.5. It is planned for the next version of tracks, but that is not of any use to you now. I’m sorry to say that your best option is to try to get a mysqldump from the support team…

Just for info, I’m researching another method. A backup.rake task here works well, but only with the yaml file split up so that each table has its own file. I’ll see if I can produce a script to convert the one file yaml to the format required for this backup.rake.

@bsag: that would be great!

Meanwhile I got an answer to my dump request on the MorphExchange forum.
As expected, I don’t get one.
But they had another idea. Downloading the CSV exports from Tracks and insert them into the table using PHPMyAdmin. Sounded good. But the multiline notes, attached to some actions, seem to confuse the lexer in the injection script of phpmyadmin. Not to mention the missing entries in the other tables. But that could be bypassed, by manual inserts.

I second that. I have nearly the same story as amarillo and was quite surprised that there is an export but no import function. I hope there will be a solution.
