Background: After using Tracks extensively I realized that in my current job I am offline too often to shrug away the situation of being on a train and not having a record of my todo items let alone being able to work on them (the list, I mean).
A local install worked so so only, with the odd loss of changes in the database (I used and still use Chronosync which does its job well as far as I can tell).
So, despite the fact that I liked almost everything else about Tracks I moved on but kept returning here until I stumbled across your post about Slinghsot.

gulp

If I understand this correctly this means that this will be iincorporated into Tracks and install with it, transparent to the user, right? What I don’t quite understand is if this will depend on the data being hosted on a Joyent server. I am partly concerned about cost, but also security of my data.

And - how could it be otherwise - the infamous question: When, oh when?

Can you give an update on this rather exciting matter, please? Thank you

First, I’m not saying that we will definitely implement this, and since there are now other frameworks available which allow similar behaviour, it might not be Slingshot. But the gist is right: such a framework would let you run Tracks on a server via a custom application which looks just like a native application. Then (in theory) you can hit ‘go offline’, carry on working, and when you go back online, the app automatically syncs your info back to the database. You can use any host which allows you to run Rails applications, so it wouldn’t have to be Joyent.

When is more difficult, but it certainly won’t be in the next release. Perhaps the one after?

Oh joy. I am not nearly technically adept enough to care which framework you will end up using as long as it does the job. And I trust you will take one that will.

You are so tantalizingly vague, I am studiously avoiding the term cruel.
What is the general time between releases, how big a job is it, etc.? I hope it sees the light of day within months (the kind of months us lowly users tend to call weeks wink )

Seriously, I wished I could contribute to the actual development, more than just letting you know that this would be one of the really big wishes of mine. But maybe it helps to know that, too, as a developer.

Best wishes
