Uninstall Tracks 1.7

I’m in over my head and would like to uninstall Tracks 1.7 from my computer. (Windows XP). I’ve searched this site and the internet without luck. Perhaps the answer is right in front of my nose, but I can’t see it. Could someone please provide some step by step uninstall advice. Thanks. Michael

Outlook Integration

Thanks to the Tracks contributors for a great product.

I use Outlook at work and wanted a convenient way of turning mail messages into Tracks todo items. After a minor struggle with VBA, a workable solution exists.

This macro adds a new item to the right-click context menu which allows Tracks todos to be created directly from the Outlook application. It can currently set the Todo context and project, but does not deal with tags, ‘due by’ and ‘show from’.

I don’t think end-user developed Outlook macros were meant to be shipped around, but installation is not too painful in the end. The procedure is documented in the wiki, at:

Thumb drive?

Is there any way to install Tracks on a thumb/USB/flash drive? If so, has anyone roughed out the steps that would be necessary?

I’m currently running Tracks on a web host, but some performance issues (withe the host) have got me thinking having a local install might be better. I use a thumb drive on WinXP to transport files with me from home to work every day, so that seems like a logical place.

Hi Folks,

I’m a newbie to both Tracks and GTD. I’m loving both. Thanks.

I have one question and one suggestion.

How do I update to 1.5 final from 1.5 rc1 without losing my data? I know nothing about installing as I used Bitnami’s Tracks stack to install on Windows XP.

A suggestion: Please consider another level in the hierarchical strucutre. For example,

Category: Home
Project: Bathroom
Context: Agenda
Action: Select bathroom tiles at Home Depot.

As Tracks is presently constructed, I see my project (defined by David Allen as anything that takes more than one action) list growing and growing and growing. Mr. Allen suggests that the average person will have 30 to 100 projects going at any one time. This makes the Project page simply overwhelming.

Install with Instant Rails fails on “rake migrate” and “rake db_schema_import”

Installing Tracks 1043 fails when “rake migrate” or “rake db_schema_import” is run.

Using ruby 1.8.6 Rails 1.2.5. Win XP Pro

Creation of the tracks1043 database works fine.

Table creations via rake will not succeed.

How to fix?

I can’t seem to find tracks_start.bat. I tried running Disk Start.vbs, but I get the error: “The system cannot find the file specified.“ on Line 26, Char 1.

Any ideas?

WAMP + RoR

I initially tried to follow all the various tutorials mentioned here and on the main Tracks site to install Tracks on Windows, but ran into various problems and it was messy having to have cmd windows open all the time etc. and then i came across this method for running RoR alongside a WAMP installation which is what i use for all my PHP based sites on Windows anyway:

All-in-one Install works, but doesn’t stay up long

Greetings,

I recently installed the all-in-one package with the Uniform server onto a WinXP computer and it does work just fine.

However, overnights it will stop working - at least Tracks does. When I go to check the webserver admin, it appears to be up and works okay. I do a restart, etc. but Tracks will not work and reports a variety of errors at the login page.

What I have to do to get it to work again is to quit everything and run the start up batch file again.

Then around 24 hours later I have to do it again. I did check my server to make sure it wasn’t set to shut down, go to sleep, turn off HDs, etc. and it’s not. Yet tracks still stops working overnight for some reason.

Usually this isn’t a problem locally but if I am on the road and need to use Tracks, it’s a problem.

Any suggestions?

CMD prompt window closes; tracks doesn’t run

Hiâ€”Iâ€™m a total end-user trying to get this up and running. I followed the directions for the all-in-one install here, and everything went smoothly, or so it seemed. When I run the tracks_start.bat.bat it seems to go as intended up until the very endâ€”the cmd screen thatâ€™s supposed to stay open fills up with text (too fast to read, so I donâ€™t know if itâ€™s the *right* text) and *closes*. http://localhost:3000 gets me â€œserver not foundâ€ messages. As I understand it, that window needs to stay open, but like I said, it happens so fast (almost immediately after the â€œStart Tracks and MySQL server?â€ dialogue) I donâ€™t even have a chance to see if thereâ€™s an error reported.

Any suggestions?

Tell me: at what point does the problem command screen show up? Are you left with a browser window open with the Uniform Server admin page still showing? Do you see a command screen showing the Webrick server starting? Or is it this screen that is faulty?

Also make sure all your popup blocker, virus, firewall software is not blocking the Uniform Server. Port 80 needs to be allowed. Localhost needs to have Popups/Active content enabled or allowed.

Make sure you have downloaded and installed MySql.rb also. I have found that when its missing, the Tracks command screen will throw up a bunch of text, groaning that the database isnâ€™t responding. Describe the sequence in a little more detail. Feel free to move over to the forum for future postsâ€¦

OK, I get “echo on”, “cd Uniform Server3.32“, “TrackServerStart.vbs”, then the prompt for the drive letter (“W”), then the prompt to start Tracks and MySQL, a quick cmd window pop-up (unreadable), the server homepage comes up in my browser, there’s another quick cmd opened and it and the original cmd close. If any text is coming up on the original cmd, it’s too fast for me to see—I think that’s where the Webrick output belongs, so it may well be that this is what’s not working, but I have no idea how to troubleshoot that (it’s not showing as a process, if that helps).

I did add the MySQL.rb file—I followed the installation instructions exactly. I thought that might have something to do with it, so I even re-downloaded it and copied it over again, just in case it had gotten corrupted somehow the first time. I am not running any anti-virus or firewall, and the only resident anti-spyware is Windows Defender. I used netstat to check the ports, and no other software is opening port 80. I admit that I’m not sure how to check or allow active content/pop-ups on localhost. The only other thing that seems out of line is that PhpMyAdmin isn’t working, either—which again points to a MySQL issue, but…

I appreciate the help. I’d rtfm but, well, it doesn’t appear there *is* a fm just yet. I’ve covered about everything I can find (including the 5 or so posts in the forum) and simply don’t know enough to figure this out.
