…you order Tiger reflexively on the day pre-orders are announced, and then mark 29th April on the calendar with the words “Tiger arrives”, adding more exclamation marks than are strictly becoming for a woman of your age.
…you find out that a new Apple Store is opening in your home town, and go out of your way to walk past the closed shop, just to look at it. You do this despite the fact that you generally detest shopping and shopping centres. You also realise that the opening night coincides with a party that you’re going to, and you make elaborate but impractical plans to try to get in to the Apple Store when it opens (and perhaps get a free Apple T-shirt!), and yet still make it to the party.

Oh dear!-----
I did #1, but not before going to Amazon to see if they might have had it cheaper. £90 jarred my bones somewhat, but, meh.. it's Apple
I don't see anything wrong with that. It's no worse than me camping out on a freezing British winter's night to get into the London store opening, and that's perfectly normal - right?
I was kind of hoping to combine #1 and #2 and pick up a copy of Tiger from the Bullring store on the 29th - surely a 6pm new store opening on Tiger day is more than coincidental?
Are you going to do a Simple Upgrade, an Archive and Install, or a "wipe the disk and then spend hours getting the system back to the way it should be"? I've never done the last one yet - the Archive and Install was enough work....
Hope you get to both launch and party!
Peter Cooper: I get academic rates, but it still seems a fair bit to shell out. However, with each main release of MacOS X, I've felt that the price was good value. It often feels like getting new hardware, not new software, and I don't think that Tiger is going to be any different in that respect.
Jon: You're perfectly normal :-D
V and DiskDamn: I started to try to actually formulate an equation to my gut feeling for it, but my maths isn't up to it. So I'll go along with DiskDamn's rule of thumb. Basically, acceptability of exclamation mark use is a some decreasing function of both age and quantity.
Ollie: I don't think that it's a coincidence at all, but whether they'll have enough copies to go around is another matter entirely.
pete: Hmm. Haven't decided yet. I did an Archive and Install last time too. It will come down to the outcome of a battle between my cautious, thorough self (complete format and install) and my impatient, 'let's just get this sucker installed' self (A&I). We'll see who wins on the day

What's the equation determining the maximum amount of exclamation marks becoming a woman of a given age?

More than 3 exclamation marks for any gender and a person's age is > 16 is considered a faux pas
