Work in progress

Filed under: General, — bsag @ 06:06 PM

I spent a bit of time at the weekend finishing the main work of updating Tracks to use Ajax to edit, create and delete items. For those of you who don’t know what Ajax is, it’s basically some clever Javascript that allows you to make changes to the database and show those changes ‘live’ without having to refresh the whole page. It makes the whole thing much more like a normal application, rather than a web application.

For those of you keeping up with Tracks development, I’ve put a couple of silly movies showing me editing projects in the new interface here. You can have a good laugh at my typos—-typing while recording live is surprisingly tricky.

On a side note, I’m using Snapz Pro to make the movies. It’s incredibly good, and while I’m just using a demo version at the moment, I think I’ll pony up for a licence.

    Hey BSAG,

Latest version of Tracks is looking sweet. I'm looking forward to getting it set up on my machine. Having had a bit of a play with backpack too I wondered whether it might influence future revs of Tracks.

    cheers,

JonH----- I love Snapz Pro X. I use it a lot to create quick tutorials, as well as a way to grab scenes from television shows and such for my hobby of making "unwanted" fan-music videos. I've never been disappointed.

Tracks looks like its developing nicely.

JonH: Thanks! I'm using Backpack myself for various kinds of more verbose list-making that I don't really want cluttering up my lean'n'mean todo lists, so yes---I'd like to tie things in. One approach might be to use the public Backpack API to allow you to view/post to Backpack. I had already planned to use XMLRPC to get data into and out of Tracks, so that's another thing to think about. The mobile interface is something to aspire to too. Aargg! They set such high standards!

    Jesse: Thanks!

phil: Ditto. And thanks to you all for your patience. The fact that I can only squeeze this stuff in in my spare time means that progress is slower than I would like. But version 1.03 is creeping ahead.
