Whale dream
I had a very odd dream last night. I was on a boat, helping out on a whale-watching tour. I did this for real, and often dream about it, particularly when I’m a bit stressed. I was up on the observation deck, when I sawâto my utter joyâthat we were surrounded by killer whales (orcas), leaping and breaching high into the air. The tourists on deck got very excited about this, and reached out their arms. I warned them not to put their hands into the orcas’ mouths as their teeth were sharp, but one woman did just that. The orca wasn’t being aggressive, but her hand got badly cut. At once, the orca took on the form of a man, and jumped on board to apologise to the woman (orcas are so polite). He was naked and his human skin still bore the striking black and white patterns of his orca form.
We all went down to the galley for some coffee, and while we were down there a storm blew up. A huge wave broke against the stern of the boat, and propelled us forward violently. “That was a huge wave”, I said. The orca looked scornful; “Call that a big wave? Pah, that’s nothing.” Then he smiled his big, sharp smile.

"He was naked..."
Hmm, and how do you think this sounds, Mrs Bsag?
(Trust me to zero in on that part!)----- Wow. Great dream and well told. I love that last bit especially.
Speaking of Orcas, I live in the Pacific Northwest where there are lots of 'em. I saw an interesting story on the news last night that explained how the Orcas are changing how they communicate because of increasing noise caused by passing ships. (They pointed out that whale watching boats don't contribute to the problem because they tend to keep their distance and idle when Orcas are nearby.)
"What's the change in communication?" you ask? The Orcas are now using Instant Messaging on waterproof laptops.
OK. Not really. The way a biologist explained it is they are doing what we do when we're trying to talk to someone who is hard of hearing: they're having to "speak" louder and slower.

to me, it's obvious...
don't give in to the temptation...
forgive me if, somehow, i'm mistaken...

David (TEFL Smiler): Well, I mentioned he was naked in case you thought that my dream contained an orca who turned into a man and was wearing a suit, which would just be ridiculous
. I did actually try to remember ifâhow can I put thisâhe was as impressively proportioned as an orca-formed orca (purely out of scientific interest, you understand), but all I can remember from my dream is a sort of fuzzy image. So, either my brain censored my own dream (which is really annoying), or I was being more biologically literal than might be expected. You see, orcas, like all cetaceans, sensibly keep their equipment tucked away safely so that it doesn't come to any harm or hinder their streamlining. It only appears on special occasions.
And yes, trust you to notice. I should say for the record that nothing happened between me and Mr. Orcaâwe just had coffee and talked. That's coffee, not 'coffee'. Hope that clears up any confusion.
Brian: Yes, that doesn't surprise me at all. I've listened on a hydrophone in Scotland, and heard the racket that even very distant boats and particularly scalloper's rakes make. I'm amazed that they can hear each other at all. I wonder if they are suffering hearing loss as well.
stacy: See my comment to David. There was no temptation in the dream (nor is there any outside it)

I had a dream once about whales. Many whales actually. I swam with them in the ocean. Infact I saw dolpins as well. I think ocean giants (when they are nice) mean something grand. They are mysterious and for the most part, nice. I was holding onto one of the largest whales in the ocean (the sperm whale). This whale was just going about it's business and could care less. I have read online about whales being fortunes in our dreams, but if they are aggressive then it's obviously misfortunes or great dissapointments.

Dreams are a form of expressing regressed memories. If so, what do you think your dream is related to?
