Wet
We did some more work in the garden over the weekend, and I planted some lettuce seeds in one of the beds. When I got home from work today, I went out in the garden to have a look at them, which was slightly ridiculous. I knew perfectly well that nothing would have germinated in 24 hours, but I wanted to look anyway. Growing plants from seeds is such a magical process, even if you know—-in theory—-how it works.
As I stood casting an encouraging, “grow, please” eye over the beds, it started to rain, and I suddenly caught that fleeting, subtle, exhilarating smell of the first rain drops on warm tarmac. I breathed deeply, enchanted and surprised by it, because it’s a smell that I associate with the heat of summer. Then I realised that I was getting unpleasantly soaked while standing mere metres away from a dry sofa and tea making facilities, and went inside. So much for my Earth Goddess moment.

I hope you never lose the wonder of moments like those. The power of a recognised scent to transport you to another world is amazing - new mown grass, the school playing fields etc.----- On the other hand, even an Earth Goddess enjoys a nice cuppa every now and then.

O.K.,so I´m up in an apple tree pruning and so far in the last hour I´ve first removed some layers of clothing because of the sun then I´ve replaced them because of the returning clouds and increasing chilly wind then I´ve gone to the parking lot and reluctantly put on my raincoat because I finally accept that the rain/sleet is NOT going to stop, at least not before I´m drenched, all this up and down the ladder, trying to get done so at some point I can stop pruning and start landscaping this year and the lady of the house yells from the porch that I should come in with her and Harry the house pig (harry the house pig, seriously) and I joke that "No thanks, there´s no such thing as bad weather to a master gardener, there´s just sissies and grown men too stoopid to come in out of the rain" and the rain stops and the reverse process starts as the clouds clear and the sun shines.... INSIDE? CUP OF TEA? How can you truly enjoy gardening with that kind of attitude?

I'm of the "cover it all with green concrete" party, but there is something about the smell of new-mown grass...
