Tiger Day

Filed under: Technology, — bsag @ 02:05 PM

OK, I’m so excited, it’s just ridiculous. What with getting my copy of Tiger delivered, trying to make it to the opening of the Bullring Apple Store, and then trying to make it to a party (by which time I may be thoroughly geeked out, and even less comprehensible to others than usual), it may be a day before you hear from me again. Or it might be longer if I manage to stuff the installation up…

I hope everyone has fun, but remember to backup first!

Yes, but will you still be in any condition to install it after the party - Or are you going to do the real geeks thing and "Just before we go..........."----- I was so close to being at the Bullring launch... still, friends entered me for some competition thing. They may even have snagged me a t-shirt...

Well, I queued for an hour and a half, but didn't make it in to the store before I had to go to the party. :-( No T-shirt for bsag.

Got my copy -- pre-ordered -- arrived just before lunchtime at work.

Got home -- other half wants to do something on computer so don't get a chance until 8.00pm

Load disc -- whirr, whirr, spit

Check disc -- is DVD, I only have CD

Need to send disc back to Ireland for replacement :-(

Not happy! Why wasn't CD an option (preferably in large letters) on the original order form?

    Steve

PS -- sorry my first comment is a whinge. PPS -- I've been reading your blog for ages, found it whilte doing a search for 'morris dancing' and 'blog'!

(I found it through GeoURL - you used to live right next door to me...)

They've made a complete switch to DVDs because all new Macs come with DVD drives and everything (supposedly) will have to switch at some point. They haven't advertised the fact particularly well though.

SteveC: How annoying. It does seem silly that you couldn't specify a CD at order. Perhaps you could find someone with a DVD-ROM and a CD burner who could make a copy (if it's not copy protected). Having said all that, if you do have a DVD-ROM, it's much more convenient to have the installer all on one disc---it makes the installation process much faster.

Don't worry about whinging---I do it all the time grin

Matthew: Really? Heh, we should have met up. That reminds me that I don't think I've updated my GeoURL since I moved.
