The 100 is the top of the 100
I’m a bit late with this, but the PowerBook 100 made it to number one of Mobile PC magazine’s Top 100 Gadgets of all time. Obviously, I have good taste. I’ve got a PowerBook 100 sitting in a cupboard, and it was the machine —- bought second-hand —- that I wrote my thesis on. I was very fond of it, despite the persistently squeaky trackball that I never managed to silence. I slaved over it, played an inordinate amount of Tetris on it, and it even survived having a terracotta plant pot fall on it —- a tough little machine.

Call me hopelessly cynical if you wish, but could the fact that it's "Mobile PC magazine's Top 100 Gadgets of all time" have influenced the choice a little. I can't help but feel that if it had been "Swiss military Tool World", or "TV Remote Monthly" the result may have been somewhat different. ----- Keith: Perhaps, though I thought that there was a reasonable spread of 'gadgets' given their probable bias.

I saw this too and likewise got nostalgic. My PowerBook 100 also sits in a cupboard - it was the machine I wrote my first book on. I had Tetris installed but I remember the flashing screen effects and music from Prince of Persia B&W v1.0 more vividly. I never dropped anything on mine, but it still goes: they knew how to build 'em back then. BTW the squeaky trackball? That was a feature...
