Soggy

Filed under: Random Mumblings, — bsag @ 04:10 PM

Well, I suppose it’s nice that it might be sunny at the weekend, but there’s a good few days of very soggy walks back from the railway station there. Last night I discovered that, while my rucksack in which I lug my laptop is shower-proof, it is in no way downpour-proof. Just about everything got a soaking yesterday—-I had wet clothes, squelching socks and even wet bank notes. As I stood on the doormat, dripping quietly, I once again wished for a personal, rain-proof force field, but I suppose I’ll have to make do with a GoreTex jacket for now, like everyone else.

"a personal, rain-proof force field" : isn't that called an umbrella? smile----- What was it Billy Connolly said? 'No such thing as bad weather, just the wrong clothes' ;o)

Having said that, I was in the Lake District last week talking to some visitors from the Czech Republic; one of them commented that in all their travels they hadn't yet managed to photograph a "lesser spotted British hillwalker" - someone walking without a GoreTex!

Having travelled to various remote locations they were genuinely surprised at how much we wrap up for a relatively simple trip up a 900m mountain...

Want a good link for what might be coming weather wise? Have a mooch at this great site.

Spare a thought for a colleague of mine who just told me they've had 57 consecutive days of rain in Tromsö

“a personal, rain-proof force field” is a garbage bag with a head hole. Yessir, that's high tech.

Icky, I hate it when it's like that outside. Unless I get to sleep in, then that's perfect weather.

iain: Not when the rain is coming horizontally, and cars are doing their best to send small waves over your lower portions. grin

Kev: I totally agree with Billy's sentiments there, but sometimes even the right clothing isn't adequate. Great weather site, by the way. Oooh, occluded fronts! I've missed those.

Ian: Oh my. I think that might force me to wear a dry suit and flippers to work.

    Andy: Hehe grin

bitweever: Oh yes - rain (particularly on a thin roof, like a caravan or boat) when you're tucked up inside and don't have to go out is very cosy.
