Smelling Spring

Filed under: Random Mumblings, — bsag @ 05:42 PM

After all the rain last week, we’ve had some wonderful Spring weather recently. It’s been bright and crisp, and at long last, I can smell Spring coming — literally. Now that my cold is finally going, I can smell the grass beginning to grow again, the bulbs blooming and — best of all — the almond trees along my route to work are in full, delicious blossom. Taking a deep breath and filling my head with almond blossom smell is my favourite part of the day.

Next you'll be telling us that you can hear the grass grow and that you've been seeing rainbows in the evening, then I'll know I've regressed to the sixties.........

As I drive to work in the morning I see crocuses (croci?) and daffodils poking their heads above nature's parapet and taking a look around.

Here it smells like dog poop.

Oh. We have a dog. Aha!

Jonathan and Bill: Have you no poetry in your souls? grin. Actually, to be pedantic, you can smell things beginning to grow again, because they start giving off more volatile chemicals, and as the air is warmer, your nasal membranes are less anaesthetised by the cold.
