Shiny toys

I've just taken delivery of a shiny new iMac G5 20" to replace our creaky old iMac, and some other nice toys like an EyeTV (digital terrestrial version) and Aperture, all courtesy of the great Apple educational prices.

I'd write more, but I've got lovely new geek toys to set up and play with! I'm sure I'll be going on about the experience at great length in due course. Brace yourselves...

Bitweever - go to an Apple Store and see Aperture running on a similar before you make a purchase, take along some of your own images. I'm having great fun with it but the RAW conversions from some camera models leave a lot to be desired.

The new iMacs look so cool. I too am looking at Aperture, but I'm not sure how it would run on my 15" PB.

Haha, I know the feeling. I got my 17" PowerBook a few weeks ago smile Now I have no need to ever leave the couch. I'm not sure I could go back to a desktop again hehe, but those iMacs sure look nice..----- When you run into problems with Aperture be sure to pop over to the Apple discussion forums...

    Have fun with the iMac!

I thought it was ITV not EyeTV.

Peter Cooper: I've still got my PowerBook for my main work, but the iMac is for Mr. Bsag and as a music/photo and now TV server.

ijw: Will do. Haven't had much chance to play with it yet, but first impressions are good.

bitweever: I'm not sure, but I do know that it won't even install on my PowerBook 12", contrary to what I'd thought. Runs fine on the iMac, though.

    pitix: Sure, will do.

Lyle and Matthew: Ah, homophones... wink

Andy: I'll do my best when I've got things sorted out.

A most enviable piece of equipment. I hope it serves you well.

Indeed Aperture is very nice. I only got it last week and I'm already impressed by its fluidity and speed. It offers a ton of advanced options in a real easy and simple interface. I won't ever need to import pictures with iphoto, and I only ever use Photoshop for montage because Aperture does the job really well. Well done Apple.
