p. I've just found a fantastically useful audio utility: "Audio Hijack Pro (Rogue Amoeba Software)":http://www.rogueamoeba.com/audiohijackpro/ produced by Rogue Amoeba Software (great name, eh?). As the name suggests, it can 'hijack' any audio source (like RealOne, iTunes etc.), so that you can apply some sophisticated audio plug-ins or filters, or (and this was what attracted me) record from the source.
p. As I've mentioned many times before, I'm a "BBC Radio 4":http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/ and "Radio 7":http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbc7/ addict, but often miss programmes because they're on at awkward times. It's true that some of the programmes on Radio 4 are available for playback, but then we have to listen at the computer, as we can't stream RealOne to the "SliMP3 (Slimdevices)":http://www.slimdevices.com player. With Audio Hijack, you can record playback streams to MP3, and even set up a timer to record live broadcasts. It works beautifully, and allows us to listen on the SliMP3, or transfer the broadcasts to the iPod, for roving TiVO-like playback!
p. I also found that the "Sony Ericsson Clicker (Salling Software)":http://homepage.mac.com/jonassalling/Shareware/Clicker/index.html had been updated, which seems to have ironed out many of the bugs. The new 'keypad' menu -- which allows you to quickly control an application using the keypad or the joystick on the phone -- is fabulous.
p. Finally, the "SliMP3 Server":http://www.slimdevices.com/su_downloads.html software has been updated again (those guys must never sleep) and as a funky new alarm clock feature. This could be a perfect excuse to get another one to go in the bedroom... It has really been a weekend of geeky audio gizmos so far, and I'm loving it.

Have you heard of the iTrip? http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/itrip/index.html It's an FM transmitter that sends a signal to your car radio (or any radio for that matter) so that one can listen to one's iPod in the car without using a tape adapter. I'm tempted to buy one for roadtrips, but I just bought a Powermate, so I can't really justify the price.

j,ngan: I have heard of it -- looks pretty good, but I don't really spend enough time in the car to justify the expense either. I have a minidisc player in the car which works pretty well.

When the SliMP3 was launched, one of their big things was that people would be able to transcode other formats to mp3 through "the power of open source" (I read the announcement on Slashdot)... has no-one done that? Or is RealOne helpfully proprietry?----- I don't think so. It will transcode WAV, AIFF and Ogg Vorbis (if you have LAME installed), but not RealOne. I suspect that you're right and it is 'helpfully proprietry'. I wish the BBC hadn't gone for such a closed solution.
