Reasons to be cheerful, 1, 2
In the interests of counting my blessings…
- I’ve just finished two days of interviewing prospective undergraduates. This is surprisingly hard work. If you’re at all empathic, the fog of nervousness exuded by the students starts to seep into your pores. It took a session with my iPod playing Magnetic Fields at an unwisely high volume on the way home to expunge the feeling.
- Our beloved iMac is back home with a shiny new keyboard1, and a shiny new video card. I can’t believe how much we missed it, particularly for recording programmes off Radio 4 to listen to later.
Reasons to be slightly worried, 1…
- I’ve got to get two grant applications submitted before Christmas.
1 Mr. Bsag is under orders to not allow tea to come within 5m of the iMac, or there’ll be trouble…

As another radio listener, I would like to recommend Steam (http://members.cox.net/flixtonsoftware/Steam/) to you. It downloads schedules and sets reminders for your favorite programmes on any BBC radio station. A nice little app.
What do you use to record them - Audio Hijack Pro?----- my supervisor doused his laptop keyboard in fanta last week. understandably it stopped working, so he let it dry and plugged an external keyboard into it as a temporary measure. then the other day he was working and absent-mindedly started typing on the laptop keyboard rather than the external one, and to his surprise it had started working again!

ThoughtBadger: Cool! That's a great little app: it does what it's supposed to do very well. Yes, I do use Audio Hijack Pro. It's a great application, and mostly works superbly. It does occasionally throw the odd hissy fit and refuse to do our bidding, but we'd be lost without it. Looking at Steam, I'm thinking that some clever and tight integration between the two could give you the radio equivalent of a TiVo.
dvd: You're supposed to immerse the keyboard in water to rinse it out, and then let it dry, but that's a bit tricky with a laptop
Ours did eventually more or less work, but we thought that if the iMac was going in for a new video card, we might as well get them to spring for a new keyboard as well.
