Oxford photos
I’ve just put up some more Lomo photos at wings open wide. Most were taken in the Covered Marketâa wonderful bastion of small independent traders who manage to hold out against the tide of Starbucks and McDonalds outlets.
The light levels are rather low in the market, and there are lots of colourful displays, so the Lomo is the perfect tool for taking shots. As usual, the results were wildly variable and somewhat unexpected, but I was quite pleased with the way that some of them turned outâreflections figured prominently.

They're really good photos - bring back various memories of the Covered Market in particular.
Does the Oxford Sandwich Comapny still exist? Now there are plenty of memories...----- Thanks, Lyle! Yes, (if it's the one I'm thinking of) the Oxford Sandwich Company does indeed still exist. The tiny shop just opposite the riding gear shop? They make cracking prawn and avocado ciabattas.

Yup - that's the one. Many fond memories of wandering down there from working in St. Giles, getting an exceptionally good sandwich dirt-cheap, and wandering back.
There was also Beatons a bit further down that used to do burritos and evil veggie chilli, but I seem to recall that got taken over by the people that run the Brothers chain in Oxford. (We are going back a few years, by the way)
Amazingly, I also used to work for the leather-wear place in the Covered Market, known (at the time) as Madisons. It had a sister shop, Raphaels, in the Blue Cross (I think) bit, running from Cornmarket to Covered Market from the alleyway beside Boots. Again, going back a fair while. I haven't lived/worked in Oxford since '96, and the stuff with Madisons was probably '89 or '90. God, time flies, and all that gubbins.

Great shots! I just bought my LC-A off of eBay, and I should get it in a week or two! I have a feeling that it will be great for capturing the July 4th fireworks.

bitweever: Heh, you'll love it
Fireworks, neon lights, candles--the Lomo loves them all. But it's also great in bright sunlight too, where you get really extreme vignetting. It's all fun.
