Outlying spam
Like many people, I’ve been deluged by virus-laden and bounced emails (with my address spoofed as the sender) as a result of the MyDoom virus. I’ve also had the usual quantity of spam, through which I have to dredge to find my genuine email. But among the usual crop of âhot chicks/viagra/Atkins dietâ tempting offers, one spam stood outâmetallic yarn on special offer.
And my metallic yarn needs have gone unfulfilled for so long.

bsag: out of interest, which email client do you use? I know the answer is probably here somewhere - but it's late, and it's easier to ask

... and what I meant to include:
If you use Entourage I once came across a really good tutorial for setting up spam filters:
http://www.mikey-san.net/filtering.html
It works really well.

djn1: You've caught me out in an exaggeration - I do have spam filtering in place, but I still maintain that two bits of unfiltered spam is two bits too many
Plus, I still have to give my spam box a quick look over every once in a while to make sure nothing legitimate has slipped through.
To answer your question, I use Mailsmith (which is excellent, and I went on about at some length - http://www.rousette.org.uk/mt-static/blog/archives/000355.html ), and I got a free copy of SpamSieve ( http://www.c-command.com/spamsieve/index.shtml ), which does a great job of filtering most spam. Over the period I have been monitoring it, it has caught 95.6% of spam.
