Nothing to say
I don’t really have anything worthwhile to add to the thousands of words written about the London bombings yesterday. I was working at home yesterday and listening to the radio when the news came in. My first thought was “Oh no, not again.” My Dad used to work in London, and throughout the 80s, I used to worry frantically whenever I heard about IRA bombs in London. It’s the same old brutality, just carried out more efficiently.
It’s a natural reaction when something like this happens for people to ask if your friends and family are OK. I’m glad to be able to say they are, but that’s not really the point. It doesn’t matter whose family or friends they are—-or, for that matter, what country the deaths or injuries occur in. They are all humans, and we are all affected.

I love that comment on us all being humans, and all being affected. Because we are all humans, we are all affected, it be a terrorist attack or a new power plant. We are the species given the ablilty to reason and use that power to reach conclusions. If humans just act as one, think as one, and cooperate as one, the world would be much better off.----- Agreed. Whether it is family, community, religion, or country, the idea of "so long as we are safe" is offensive. It is natural to feel more strongly for those you know, but that only seems to argue that one might want to know more...

Nikhil Mulani: Exactly. It applies to debt relief and global warming as much as anything else.
Doug: I think the word ubuntu sums up that idea quite well: "I am what I am because of who we all are".
Since I wrote this, central Birmingham has been evacuated (on Saturday night), but I'm glad to say that no devices were found. I was also glad to read that some of those evacuated took their drinks with them, and formed a conga line past the security cordons. Parting a Brummie from his or her pint is not easy, even under threat of bombing

[...] « Friday Q - Reality Hello world! » As One I think bsag has summed up my feelings on the London attacks, when she made this comment : It doesnât matter whose family or friends they are-âor, for that matter, what country the deaths or injuries occur in. They are all humans, and we are all affected. As humans, we must cooperate on events such as these no matter what country it is in or what people were affected. Democrat/Republican or Labor, cooperation is the key, looking for politics is not. [...]
