New bus
I chickened out of cycling in today because of the frost, so I got the bus. The company that runs our route has finally splashed out on some new buses. When I got on, I commented to the driver that I liked the shiny new vehicle. She grimaced and said “I don’t - I’m scared of breaking it!”. When we passed another driver on the route, he gave a ‘Royal wave’ (index finger loosely extended, rotating the wrist) to say, “Ooo, get you with your posh Mercedes-Benz bus - you won’t be wanting to talk to us commoners in the canteen.”

I count myself very fortunate that I've had a company car since I was about 25. When our kids were actually kids, a bus ride was a genuine treat for them. Other passengers thought they were extracting the urine, during the ride.----- Anyone else noticed how bus and coach drivers always wave when passing each other? Even from different companies or even parts of the country. I wonder whether train drivers do the same but have never managed to get myself in position to see.

Mr. D.: I do have a car, but I prefer not to use it for journeys that I could make by bike or bus. I don't mind travelling on buses, actually. You overhear some interesting thing; only the other day, I caught a couple of school girls having a mad discussion about the Bermuda Triangle -- pure comedy! More reliability would be good, though.
RobH: I think it's like colleagues saying hello to one another when passing in the corridor -- the streets are their corridors. It must get a bit lonely up the front of the bus too. I bet train drivers do it too -- they probably moon one another. After all, who would see?
