Neck trouble
I donât know what I was doing in my sleep last night, but I woke up this morning with a really painful neck. I think I might have trapped a nerve. Iâve been walking around all day very gingerlyâas if Iâm wearing an invisible neck brace. Some kinds of relatively minor injuries seem to cause disproportionate amounts of pain and inconvenience, and you canât do very much at all without moving your neck. Somebody feed me painkillers.

An almost unbearably hot bath followed by a vigourous and almost unbearably painful massage of your neck and shoulders would be better than pain killers. Well, more beneficial. Perhaps you should go for both

Nearly same thing happened to me the other week. Very painful, and very limiting. Driving is a real pain, checking over shoulders and all.
Although, Iâm thinking itâs less inclined to be something I did in my sleep, and more that it might be a result of my messenger bagâ¦

djn1: Our bath is a bit pathetic, and we donât quite have enough hot water to fill it adequately, so I went for an unbearably hot shower, some very gentle yoga neck exercises and some pain killers. And it still hurts today. Sigh. Thanks for the advice, though.
Brian: I donât think Iâll be driving for a while, but luckily I donât need to.

yes, djn1 is right, although pain killers might be good in addition to treatment...

There's a book called Treat Your Own Neck, by Robin McKenzie which contains emergency relief exercises, suggestions for prevention and cure, and lots of helpful information, not to mention some gentle nagging (;-). You might find it helpful. He's also written a Back version, which I am currently finding very useful... :-( Sorry to be late with this, but I've been at the keyboard less often!

pete: That looks quite interesting. In the end, the solution came from my mum (Who Always Knows Best). She suggested getting one of those wheat-filled cushion type things that you heat in the microwave, and wrapping it around my neck. I got one with lavender in it too, so the smell was also relaxing. The first application gave me back most of the movement, and the second took away most of the painâmagic!
