Monkey magic

Born from an egg on a mountain top, Funkiest Monkey that ever popped, He knew every magic trick under the sun, Tease the Gods and everyone can have some fun. Monkey magic, Monkey magic, Monkey magic, Monkey magic, Monkey magic, Monkey magic ooh!

[From Monkey (Magic)]

Sorry about that—I feel better now. Ah, life is good with Monkey back on the telly. I remember watching it as a kid and understanding very little of what went on, but finding the bad dubbing and hopeless special effects highly amusing. Very little has changed, except that I now have situations in which I could actually use some of the cool Buddhist sayings. Only the other week, I had a perfect opportunity to reprove someone with: “The eunuch should not take pride in his chastity”, but I hadn’t watched the video yet so missed my chance.

Update: Since I wrote this, I haven’t been able to get that theme song out of my head. Whenever my brain is even vaguely unoccupied, “Monkey Magic, Monkey Magic” creeps in.

I used to love this show as a kid. Unfortunately, I don't see it coming to SVT here in Sweden so I shall miss that one. What ever happened to Pigsy?----- Whatever happened to any of them? Though the lead singer in Supergrass has an uncanny resemblence to Monkey.

when i was in Ghana, more than 5 years ago, we used to have this version of the Monkey King where they spoke mandarin.

That was more enjoyable and silly. I couldnt bring myself to watch this one even though it seemed to have been made after the subtitled version.

I learnt some few chinese words watching The Monkey King.

    To Shie.

I'm only 18 so i missed monkey the first time around. My flatemate and i found it on channel 4 at a ridiculous time of morning and have consequently become addicted 2 it. We now wait up till one in the morning every thursday just to catch the show! We have both been infected by the very catchy theme tune and have given both our credit cards a big dent buying soundtracks and memorobillia!

I only started watching Monkey on Friday at 1: 45am and i love it. I noticed Monkey is like Son Goku from Dragonball with his magic stick that changes to any size and the cloud that he flies on. I find Tripitaka annoying.

This show is fantastic, I even have my 2 year old son hooked. I remember fondly coming home from school and watching Monkey on BBC2 (I think) and being amazed at how Monkey could perform, whether it was fighting demons, flying his cloud or twirling his magic wishing staff. I am currently collecting all of the DVD releases, which include 13 missing episodes never shown on UK TV. There are 52 episodes in the series so start collecting.

I love monkey, he rocks. Something dawned on me the other day, though - doesn’t Sandy remind you of a kind of oriental Neil from The Young Ones? He could be Nigel Planer’s Japanese cousin!

i LOVE this show. First watched it around 85 here in australia on ABC, I think it came on after astroboy!! great TV back in those days. I love the girl who plays tripitaka (Masako Natsume) and was sad to find that she died of leukimia in 85. love the end theme as well (gandara?) Its big here in Sydney, all my friends know it and love it. Some1 mentioned a 52ep DVD set.. who is the company doing this and where is the best place to get them?? I ould love to have this collection. Nice to meet others who love monkey!
