Hairy crab
This is all over the place at the moment, but this newly discovered hairy crustacean is so cute that I had to link to it. Even its name is adorable: Kiwa hirsuta. Appropriate too.
But am I the only one who thinks that it looks like a distant albino cousin of the Hug-in-a-Mug blue Hug Monster?

They sell them in Robert Dyas for cleaning Venetian Blinds!----- I'm guessing that the hairs are for sensory purposes, given that the article said that it was blind. Living by a hydrothermal vent I don't imagine it has any trouble keeping warm.
By the way is it just me or in the initial mug monster advert didn't it come across as being a bit sinister, at least for the first half of the ad.

What an amazing creature. Blogger Ljlucy posted about this too. (http://ljlucy.blogspot.com/) She said "it looks like a tick that's been spliced with a Gibbons monkey." lol, that's exactly what it looks like to me. Ian's friend's animation is a hoot. Well done.

Jonathan Briggs: I know the things you mean. Kiwa hirsuta would be even better for that purpose because it could hang on the slats and move itself around the blinds, dusting as it went.
Keith: Yes, that's my guess too---very cool. No, it's not just you thinking that the advert is sinister. The whole thing is creepy, and if you feel like you've been given a hug after drinking a mug of horrible, dusty instant soup, you probably require medical attention.
ian: That's wonderful!
Jeannine: Yep---the arms of a gibbon grafted on to a tick.
