Disappointment

Bugger. Last week, we went to look at some properties to rent in the area we'll be moving to. One house was OK, but nothing really endeared us to it, one was appalling (and on a very run-down council estate, complete with boarded-up houses and burnt-out cars), but the last one—with apologies to Goldilocks—was absolutely perfect.

We told the estate agents that we were very interested in the place, and wanted to arrange a moving date toward the end of July. After a lot of phone calls, we've just heard that the landlords have decided to take it off the books and let it privately. Back to square one...

The 'Snakes & Ladders' of moving. I sympathize with your plight.----- I'm sorry - moving is so difficult.

That sucks. Finding a great place is hard.

Thanks folks. I think we've learnt our lesson. Don't get emotionally attached to a place until you know you can rent it.

We are talking about your future home here bsag, so I don't think that you can altogether avoid the emotional roller-coaster. I am never sure which is worse looking for a job, or for a home, but they are both horrible. At least you have the first one sorted now! Good luck.

ThoughtBadger: Thanks for your thoughts. I am excited about the new job, and I'm sure that house problems will get sorted out in the end. I'm quite a home-loving person, and I need a safe, comfortable quiet home to be able to face upheaval in other areas. But something is bound to turn up!

Tommy and I have moved an unbelievable amount of times. And here's my advice.

Book the removals men, pack, then find flat. You may think I'm joking but every time we've left plenty of time we've had nothing but disappointment. When you've got, ooh lets say, about 1 day less than you need to do the paperwork the perfect thing turns up.

Seriously, down in Brighton and in London they tell you to come back nearer the time as they don't want to keep a flat empty for a whole week, the money grabbing.... [rant edited by author's subconsciousness]
