So, we're back after our short trip away to sort a lot of things out. The work thing fell through at the very last minute. And when I say 'fell through' what I really mean is 'crashed to the ground and smashed into millions of tiny pieces'. I don't want to go into too much detail (for one thing, I'm still fuming about it), but it will probably take quite a bit longer than I had hoped to get my research up and running. It will all come out in the wash (as my mum always says).
The house thing was also very nearly a bust too. We made appointments to see three houses to rent on Tuesday, and by Wednesday, one—the most promising of course—had already been let. The others weren't particularly wonderful either. Hopefully, our vegetarian bacon-style soya bits have been saved at the last minute by a friend who is moving out of his house to live with his girlfriend. He was going to let the house out anyway, so I think we'll be able to come to an arrangement. It's not in the best position for me to commute, but it isn't impossible. The house itself is nice, and our friend is putting in a new bathroom1, re-painting and re-carpeting throughout. This will probably mean that we will be knee-deep in dust-sheets for a while, but it will be lovely when it's done.
All in all, we seem to be making slow progress, but I'm dreading the process of packing everything up. I'm going to a conference for nearly a week just before we're due to move, so poor Mr. Bsag is going to have to do a lot of the preparatory work himself.
1 The bathroom suite is a stunning example of the decade that taste forgot—the bath, basin and toilet are all a bright toothpaste green. Lovely.

Glad to hear it was not quite as bad as it sounded initially, but I am sorry you are having to endure yet more frustrations and worries. I am sure that all will come well though, you can't stop the cream rising to the top. Unless the milk is homogenised that is... (not sure where this metaphor is going, so I'll bail out while I am still safe). ![]()

Phew! (In terms of it not being the worse of the two scenarios.) ![]()

Glad that it's not the job that's gone K'fut, BSAG - I know when I read it the first time I thought "Oh shite" for you, but as it's "just" the research animals side, that's not quite so bad.
Hope it all works out with the house too - when's the house-warming blogmeet? Grin

Lyle: Thanks! A house-warming blog-meet sounds like fun. Might slightly blow away my anonymity though
I could always wear a mask... The Masked Blogger—I quite like the sound of that.

I'm a little confused on this one: do you mean that the great new job that you're supposed to be starting soon has fallen through, or 'just' some research plans in connection to the job, and you'll still be starting the job, anyway? In either case I'm very sorry indeed to hear about it, and especially if it's the actual job itself. So do you still need to move to your new location (if it's the job itself)? Can't you continue doing some work in Oxford, and stay living where you're currently living?----- David (TEFL Smiler): Sorry about the confusion. I was a bit tired when we got back, and I wasn't making a lot of sense. It's just one aspect of my research—specifically getting hold of some animals to work with. The job itself is still on, and I have some contingency plans for the research, so it shouldn't be too much of a problem in the long run. It just delays getting my teeth into the actual research a bit— and just to make myself clear, I don't mean getting my teeth into the animals, I never bite animals
