Amazon Associate links

p. For a while, I’ve been looking for a way to include images of the covers of CDs that I mention or books that I’ve read, without getting in to copyright issues. I heard about the [“Amazon Associates Programme(Amazon.co.uk Associates Programme)”:http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/subst/associates/join/associates.html/ref=mkash32/026-1401664-4955609], which would allow me to do just this, with the pleasant side-effect that if anyone buys something after following the link to Amazon on my page, I’ll get a small percentage of the selling price of the item. I’m under no illusions that it will make me even slightly rich (particularly given my slightly eccentric taste in music), but it might provide a few quid to offset my hosting fees a little. Unfortunately, it will only work with Amazon.co.uk, which isn’t much use for people outside the UK. I’ve set it up now, so if you’re interested in the Sheila Chandra CD, just click the image to go to Amazon’s site.

p. I’m not into advertising for the sake of it (even if it makes me money), so I won’t be linking to any CDs that I don’t own and listen to, books that I haven’t read or DVDs that I haven’t watched.

Don't be so sure non-UK residents avoid amazon.co.uk: for some reason known only to themselves the American publishers of Harry Potter decided young American readers wouldn't be able to figure out what a "jumper" was so they translated it into "sweater" for the American market. Quite a few people I know decided to boycott this editorial nonsense and bought the British edition (actually, they mostly bought both).----- I have actually bought a few DVDs from amazon.co.uk because they were much cheaper than in the German amazon store. However, works only for DVDs, not for CDs or books.

I thought you coudl sign up for bot amazon.co.uk & amazon.com. I have seen plenty of sites do this, i have a vague memory of asking amazon if this was possible. I think you have to have an associate agreement with each site is all.

I have a side business that works just like that, with a small percentage of my business volume, paid back to me from the manufacturer(s). After 6 months I now get 50 to 70 every month. And it gets better and better. Eventually I hope to cut back on my dayjob so that I can spend more time with the family.

Pica: Really? Do the American publishers really think that American kids wouldn't understand 'jumper' in context? Then there was the "Sorcerer's Stone/Philosopher's Stone" debacle... Pfft.

dave murphy: Hmm, might try that then, and just provide two links.
